Ministry Report from Brazil: 6 January 2012
Judy King

Busy Time!!!!!

As one politician said, “Game On!!!” Actually it is not a game. It is the beginning of the Bible Seminar. Last night we got a call that they were coming into the port here in Manaus on a fishing boat. They actually arrived at about 9 pm. By the time we got them into the truck a man so kindly volunteered and home it was about 10pm.

We had spent a lot of the day getting last minute things knowing the time was getting close. After we got their call we scrambled to get bread in the house and make up drinks for them, picking up some fresh fruit and things we needed to pick up when we the actual time they would arrive. It worked out well.

Everybody was glad to see everybody. We have a pastor friend that is really hunting out things for us which is eliminating a lot of extra driving for me. He is in better physical health and did a run down to where the boats docked to see if they really had docked. When I knew for sure I went down and greeted them as they got off the boat. My heart was content then. I had been in real turmoil until I saw them, greeted them, joked and laughed with them.

This pastor friend is new, but knows how to work and relate to people having very little Portuguese. In fact that family is pretty exceptional in that from the beginning they got to know everybody on their street not knowing Portuguese. He so wants to be able to really talk and witness. He helps in 2 churches teaching Bible Studies in English and helps with whatever he can do. He and his wife are living on a shoe string and maybe he will have to return to the states for support. So pray for this family, they have 5 children.

So today we made sure everybody had long pants and something for their feet to go to church in. I also picked up some brake shoes for our car and the pastor will put them on for us.

Cathie put a roast in the oven and the girl we have helping got some of the other parts of the lunch going. We had beans, rice, sweet potatoes, roast beef and gravy, farinha. So we are off to a good start in the tummy area. We have our meals planned, it is now in the execution of them all. The folks licked the platter and kissed the cook. All in all we had 14 for lunch. Tomorrow is Saturday and they do their own cooking on Saturday’s and we get roasted chickens on Sunday so nobody has to cook anything but rice and beans. We will be going out daily and getting like French rolls. Snacks at break time and suppers are planned and ready to go when the time comes.

Then there are the classes. Qualifications of a pastor, What and why we Believe, The churches of Revelation, the Parables, Life of Joseph. It will be heavy in some ways but time for discussion, questions, and study. Pray that all will benefit and that they will have a clearer vision of what it means to be a real Christian and what the role of leaders in the church is. Pray that they will have real stamina for doing what we are saying and that the Lord will be glorified in all. We have a couple that do not read well but they have very good ears. Pray for them as they get into the discussions. They are very good people and have a lot to offer in terms of good ole common sense.

Pray that Cathie, I, and Pastor Brad will have good health and rest in the Lord.

Pray that each person will realize something new deep in their hearts.

In Him I pray,
Judy
