Ministry Report: Brazil
Judy King

Judy's Profile

November 2010

It has been a very busy time here in Brazil. We had Exodus approved for publication but still decided to do another read through and it was good. We were definitely blessed by the read through as well as improving the overall flow and some small corrections. We had three Apurinã working with us. Aiãpa, Dominginho, and Mãkoã were our helpers this time. All were great helpers and along with us grew spiritually through going through the book once again.

Along with the 40 chapters of Exodus, we checked some Psalms, did another read through of Jonah, and worked on more literacy books. We want a good body of literature for the beginning readers so that they can really be fluent in reading and enjoy reading. So we literally had reams of work that we went through. We have a few more Psalms translated to check and a good few more to be translated. I don't have a stopping point on the Psalms but love them and would hope that I would keep up that for a while longer. Besides the 7 to 8 hours of working with the Indians, there was some basic running around to get food and get it cooked. They proved to be a great help in washing the dishes and helping in the kitchen.

It has been a long time since going to a conference and a friend paid our way to a conference held here in Manaus. It was very good but that week was super full. We went to the morning sessions, came home had lunch and worked in the afternoon with the folks and shot off for two more sessions at night. Speakers came from the States, Wales, and Brazil. We were blessed even though it fully occupied our days and evenings. And we still got the work done that was planned. The ole gray mare ain't what she use to be, but we still know how to put in a day's work and get in the good stuff as well.

We are not sure about when we will be going to the village yet. This has been a historic year in terms of the dry season. The water has gone lower than any time in the history of records which is over a hundred years. Last year it was historically high water, so I guess the Lord is balancing things out. It has been hard to travel. The big boats that didn't have the apparatus to look at the river floor were held in port for a while. The Apurinã had to pull their canoes through the stream that goes to the big river. Folks that visited here will remember the stream as a big lake. This time of year it is a shallow small stream with this historic low water level. Our three Apurinã arrived ok here in Manaus but they saw the river as it never has been and the boat got stuck in the mud and had to be pulled out. It is starting to rain and the water is slowly beginning to come up. With the difficulty in travel, people who have been severely ill had to cope in the village. There was no means to move anybody except ones in good shape. We are still concerned for a dear friend Ateçiro. Word got out to the river and eventually to us that he was very ill. Another man who had cancer also died from the neighboring village. So pray for the folks in that isolated place.

We hope to be able to go in early December, but if not we have a plan for 10 of the folks to come to the city for a seminar for 2 weeks. Pray that the Lord's will will be done.

In the meantime we will be resting up a bit, finish off some office work that we started before the Apurinã came and begin to prepare for the seminar wherever it will be held. Pray for a work of the Spirit of God among the Apurinã through the preaching of the Gospel in these days. Hard times often bring us all to our knees and the Apurinã have had that in the last few months.

The Lord Be With All of You,
In Him,
Judy

Please pray . . .

For Ateçiro's health

For all of those who are ill in the isolated village

For Judy's health and strength

For a work of the Spirit of God among the Apurinã through the preaching of the Gospel in these days
