Report on Short-Term Mission
to Croatia

Spring 2016

From May 29 until June 06, 2016 a REC Mission Team visited the Reformed Episcopal Church in Croatia. The team was led by The Rev. Deacon Michael Vinson from Chapel of the Cross (Dallas). Fr. Charles Erlandson (Tyler, Texas) preached sermons in various churches. Mrs. Jackie Erlandson spoke to a women's group. The St. Timothy Choir (Nathaniel Boonzaaijer, AJ Vinson, Dietrich Boonzaaijer) led by Andrew Dittman, choirmaster, delighted everyone with their beautiful singing, which enhanced the liturgy.

During their trip, the mission team visited Christ the King Church in Karlovac, where they met with the parish and sang in the Karlovac park. Afterwards, they visited Osijek to help with construction work on the Reformation Heritage Museum. They participated in evangelistic outreach, and worshiped together with Bishop Milić where St Timothy Choir participated fully in the liturgy.

Fr. Charles Erlandson lectured on the Book of Common Prayer and Anglicanism at the Michael Starin REC Theological Seminary. Next stop was Kapelna, a small village with a Roma (Gypsy) church where Jackie Erlandson talked to women about motherhood, then afterwards the entire parish joined the mission team for Evensong.

On Sunday, June 5th, the oldest REC Croatian parish in Tordinci (est.1551) welcomed the Texas team for Eucharist. Fr Charles Erlandson delivered the sermon and the St. Timothy Choir choir sang parts of the liturgy. Final stop for the REC Mission Team was the capital of Croatia – Zagreb, where they met with Fr. Jasmin Koso and his parish. After the liturgy, there was a brief fellowship and then it was time to say goodbye to each other with promises of meeting again soon.
